Successful validation of the APG|SGA climate targets by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)

APG|SGA has successfully completed the validation of its Group-wide emissions reduction targets by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). APG|SGA's ambitious short- and long-term targets now meet the SBTi Net-Zero standard for Scope 1, 2 and 3 targets and reaffirm the company's commitment to climate protection.

APG|SGA had already published its first emission reduction targets in 2018. Science-based targets were set for direct emissions (Scope 1) and emissions from purchased energy (Scope 2) for activities in Switzerland. In 2024, these original targets were recalculated on the basis of Group-wide emissions from 2023 and extended to include indirect Scope 3 emissions. With the submission to SBTi and the successful validation of these new targets, APG|SGA has committed to achieving net-zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2045. This underlines the out-of-home advertising company's ambitious commitment to a low-carbon future.

Markus Ehrle, CEO is delighted and says: “The validation of our climate targets in accordance with the SBTi Net-Zero Standard is a further milestone in our consistent commitment to sustainability. We have made a binding commitment to significantly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions across the entire Group by 2045 and have planned a variety of measures to help us meet our planned reduction path.”

The SBTi Net-Zero Standard is the world's leading framework for setting science-based net-zero targets. SBTi provides companies with standards, guidelines and tools for setting emission reduction targets. Validation by the SBTi confirms APG|SGA's science-based net zero approach, which is in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.

The SBTi has validated the following APG|SGA targets:

Short-term targets by 2030

  • Reduction of absolute greenhouse gas emissions in Scope 1 and 2 by 85% by the 2030 financial year, starting from the base year 2023

  • Increase the annual purchase of renewable electricity from 70% to 100% by 2025.

  • Reduction of absolute greenhouse gas emissions in Scope 3 by 45% by the 2030 financial year, starting from the base year 2023

Long-term net-zero targets by 2045

  • Reduction of absolute greenhouse gas emissions in Scope 1 and 2 by 95% by the 2035 financial year, starting from the base year 2023.

  • Reduction of absolute greenhouse gas emissions in Scope 3 by 90% by the 2045 financial year, starting from the base year 2023.

  • APG|SGA is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain by 2045.
