Swiss Poster Award 2019 shortlist: 36 campaigns nominated and digital diversity with around 300 competition entries
The Swiss Poster Award is one of the biggest competitions for creative commercial communication in analogue, digital and innovative Out of Home advertising in Switzerland. It recognizes outstanding work, emphasizes the value of design, and underscores the importance of posters in an intermedia comparison. The high-calibre expert jury announced the shortlist in January: 36 of the campaigns nominated saw off strong competition with around 300 contributors. The awards will be presented to the chosen nominees at the APG|SGA Poster Night on 12 March 2020, where the overall “Poster of the Year” winner will also be announced.
Headed by the jury president, Christian Brändle (Director of the Museum of Design, Zurich), the independent expert jury comprising twenty well-known figures from the worlds of advertising, culture and design evaluated some 300 competition entries in January. 36 campaigns made it on to the shortlist for the Swiss Poster Award 2019. They stood out due to their originality, how they implemented the advertising message, and their design execution. “What is noticeable this year is that digitalization has really broken through. Many posters are now being created as series and produced with numerous different image versions. Ads for screens often respond directly to the latest daily or even hourly news. This is a very exciting trend”, says the jury president. Joining the jury for the first time was Martin Walthert from Digitec Galaxus AG. He commented: “It was very rewarding to discuss the numerous entries with all the experts. I particularly like advertising that effortlessly combines a clear, comprehensible statement with a great, unusual and inspiring design or form. We have seen some excellent work, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to be more conscious of the poster medium in general.”
Awards ceremony
The winners will be announced at the APG|SGA Poster Night in Halle 622 in Zurich Oerlikon on 12 March 2020. Specialists from the expert jury will present the gold, silver and bronze awards in six categories. The highlight of the event will be the awarding of the overall winner in all categories, the “Poster of the Year”. The evening will be hosted by Swiss presenter Alexandra Maurer, with Marcel Weiss's visual effects in the set design providing some surprising moments. The winners will be celebrated in style at an after-show dinner party.
