Swiss Posters of the Year: Awards for 19 campaigns – “50 Years of Big Mac” wins gold across all categories
For the “Swiss Poster Award”, the expert jury awarded a total of 19 prizes. The “50 Years of Big Mac” campaign created by TBWA\Zürich for McDonald's Suisse won the ultimate accolade, “Poster of the Year 2018”. Other gold, silver and bronze awards were presented to outstanding analogue, digital and innovative works. 350 invited guests gathered to celebrate the winners at the APG|SGA Poster Night on 7 March 2019, at Halle 622 in Zurich Oerlikon.
McDonald's Suisse was the overall winner, with “50 Years of Big Mac”: the campaign was awarded the ultimate accolade of “Poster of the Year 2018”. The winning poster was created by renowned advertising agency TBWA\Zürich. Using arresting images, it stylizes the anniversary of the legendary double decker burger, which the fast food chain has been serving up since 1968. Praising the winner, jury member Alexander Jaggy (Chief Creative Officer thjnk Zürich) summarized: “The campaign is an iconic depiction of an icon. The pared-back aesthetic and the attention to detail with just a touch of affectionately nostalgic romance are a confident display of advertising prowess.”
19 awards handed out
More than 330 poster campaigns were entered for the national Swiss Poster Award 2018. The expert jury, comprising 21 renowned figures from the spheres of advertising, culture and design, had previously compiled a shortlist of 34 nominated campaigns. A total of 19 works in the categories Commercial National, Commercial Regional, Public Service, Culture, Out of Home Innovations and Digital Out of Home received awards on the night. The winners of the gold, silver and bronze awards impressed the jury with their creative advertising messages, craftsmanship and originality of design.
Energetic stage show and dinner party
The awards ceremony was held at the exclusive APG|SGA Poster Night on 7 March 2019 at Halle 622 in Zurich Oerlikon. With around 350 invited guests, the host for the evening was Alexandra Maurer. A stage set more than twenty metres wide, created by Marcel Weiss and his team, immersed the audience in the diverse world of out of home advertising. An exuberant mood was created by twelve-piece Swiss brass band “Traktorkestar”, whose energetic music shook the stage. At the after-ceremony dinner party, with mobile live cooking tables, guests could enjoy a variety of culinary highlights. The winners of the Swiss Poster Awards were deservedly feted till the small hours.
