APG just gets greener

June 22, 2011

In 2010, APG further reduced its environmental impact compared with previous years. Switzerland's leading out-of-home advertising company came seventeenth in BILANZ magazine's Eco rating 09/2010, making it the top-ranked media firm.

APG published its annual environmental report in June 2011. The latest edition displays some clear trends: energy efficiency is constantly increasing and environmental performance is improving year after year. Proportionally, improvements in electricity and transport have made the greatest contribution to the good result. Since 2006, the "carbon footprints" caused by electricity consumption and transport have been reduced by 50% and 20% respectively. Once again, in 2010 the company improved on its environmental performance compared with previous years.

Eco-conscious purchasing
In order to reduce electricity consumption, APG continually invests in more efficient technologies. Using green electricity to provide energy for its backlit advertising also contributes towards a favorable environmental performance. The reduction in the area of transport can be put down to the systematic procurement and use of natural gas and hybrid vehicles. With 160 vehicles, APG has one of the largest green fleets in Switzerland.

René Fanchini, APG's environmental officer, is pleased with the good figures and says the following about the company's environmental policy: "For years we have purchased more and more electricity from renewable sources. Our aim is to use renewable energy sources for all our electricity consumption. We have already achieved this with our advertising, but with our buildings we are only halfway there. We will switch to hydroelectricity in our buildings by 2012 at the latest." As a result, APG continues to pursue its environmental policy.

About the company
APG AG is the clear market leader in Swiss out-of-home advertising. As a subsidiary of Affichage Holding SA, the company offers poster sites at busy locations all over Switzerland. Using one of the largest natural gas-fuelled vehicle fleets, the regular trips made by its employees to expertly hang posters in urban and out-of-town settings have minimal environmental impact. With over a century of experience at these diverse sites, APG combines quality with decades of tradition.
