In June 2010, APG published its annual environmental report. And it contained some good news: in 2009, the Swiss market leader in outdoor advertising reduced its carbon footprint by 25% compared with 2005. With a reduction of 40%, the electricity section made a significant contribution to this positive result: thanks to environmentally responsible purchasing, APG has been able to use green electricity to provide energy for 100% of its backlit advertising spaces since 2008.
However, Electricity was not the only section to contribute to this positive result: the Transport section generated a third of the reduction, and Materials Consumption and Waste Disposal weighed in with contributions of 10% each. But that's not all: Heating energy also made a 5% contribution. Overall, this means that energy consumption has been reduced by an average of over 12% per advertisement between 2005 and 2009.
Ivan Schultheiss, Managing Director of APG, had the following to say about these pleasing figures: "As a conscientious company, we are committed – even in economically challenging times – to constantly reducing our impact on the environment. Sustainability isn't just a fashionable word for us: it is reflected in almost ten years of comprehensively applied environmental management."
